“Dude, six years,” chuckles talented lensman Perry Gershkow, when I ask him how long he’s been working on his new film, ‘Keeping In The Shadows.’
“I finished Elude, my last film with [Noah] Waggy in 2018,” continues Perry. “After that, we were all in lockdown and we kind of thought that was the magnum opus, the last hurrah. And then we got a couple more clips during COVID, and then six years later it’s become something much bigger.”
If you’re familiar with Perry’s work, you know his upcoming film will be an audiovisual ecstasy of the highest order. And, because he pays the bills with work outside of the surf industry, he’s had ample time and minimal pressure to create an uncompromised piece of digital surfing literature.
“Waggy has definitely been the protagonist of the film. Guy works so hard, and I think people are gonna trip out when they see the surfing he’s doing in this. It’s like a profile film, but encompasses a whole lot more than that. There’s so many other guys on these trips. We did two trips to Ireland, a trip to Scotland, one to Chile, and one to South Africa. I’ve also been holding onto six years of big Ocean Beach in SF. I’d say that’s Nat [Young]’s section. “
Rumor has it that Nat has been holding onto some footage of the best waves ever ridden at the shores of San Francisco’s metropolis.
“I’ve got ’em,” chuckles Perry.
Other featured surfers include Ian Crane, Torren Martyn, the Gudauskas brothers, Parker Coffin, Cliff Kapono, and more.
