A Stretch Of Sand So Versatile It Produced 5 World Champs (And Counting)
Kobi Clements x Narrabeen is a value-packed collab.
Only a few towns worldwide have produced a handful of World Champion surfers. Even fewer have done so without the assistance of world-class reef breaks or a certain man-made Superbank.
Narrabeen has done it with a big chunk of sand and a nifty rivermouth.
We could talk about the wave all we want, but the endless stream of talent that pours from the Northern Sydney suburb speaks for itself. Tom Carroll, Layne Beachley, Damien Hardman, Pam Burridge, and Barton Lynch all went on to win world titles after perfecting their craft on Narrabeen’s temperamental shores.
Seventeen-year-old former Stab Innocents star Kobi Clements — the surfer in the above clip — also happens to have grown up along the 3km stretch of sand. The southern end, specifically. If you haven’t heard of the kid, he’s one of Volcom’s rapidly ascending investments, and he ain’t scared of going over the ledge. Kobi excels at navigating Oahu’s most fearsome stretch, and after seeing some of the waves in this video, we can understand why.
Locked Down-Under was filmed entirely at Narrabeen (by Kobi’s dad) during the Coronavirus lockdowns, and features Kobi’s savage attacks on the many different moods of the world-famous beachie.
