My Step Up Is A 4’6”
8-year-old Sani Hellman surveys some vicious West Oz rock shelves.
A few months back, JOP penned an article on Seven Of Planet Earth’s Hardest Charging Children.
Sani Hellman from Ulladulla topped the list – for all the reasons evident in his latest West Oz mini slab tour clip.
Sani says he caught his first wave at “four and a half,” and says his biggest session was at a secret South Coast slab: “Four to five foot. Breaking in ten metres of water.”
His favorite surfers include: John John, for the power and the caverns. Kelly, whose Teahupo’o semifinal from 2014 he has watched thirty-two times, exactly. Mason Ho, because he “sends it everywhere, and Jordy Smith, “the oldest on tour and still getting it done.”
Sani isn’t sure of the meaning of life. He just wants to skate, play footy, surf, and hang with his mates.
“Do that every day,” he reckons, “and you’re pretty much set.”
And honestly?
Hard to argue with him.
