“Milk & Honey” Sweetens Sun Bum’s Encinitas HQ For Its First U.S. Premiere
Our most abundant premiere ever?
“I’ve never written poetry at a surf premiere before,” Caity Simmers said.
Last night we premiered Milk & Honey — our full-length surf film starring Caity, Steph Gilmore, Coco Ho, and Frankie Harrer that drops June 16th on Stab Premium.
It was refreshingly different than any other premiere we’ve ever helped host, for a few reasons: (1) It was decidedly less bro-y — the entire thing was planned, operated, and dominantly attended by women. (2) It was art-forward, with 1/4th of the land mass of the premiere dedicated to board art. (3) No booze (ostensibly) — but bottomless poke, gelato, popcorn, prebiotic sodas, a daft DJ, a photo booth, and the cleanest port-a-potties we’ve ever seen.
What Caity was referring to above was the autograph signing. Instead of a mere scribble, Caity tried to make the notes personal — a bit of art, a haiku, a rogue bit of iambic pentameter perhaps?
That’s the allure of Caity, she’s arguably the best female surfer in history. But she’s also a secret student of past sages like Sylvia Plath and Joan Didion as well as present gurus like professional skateboarder/artist Nora Vasconcellos, who was on the ground painting surfboards last night as the younger girls watched on and worshipped.
Take a look at the quick gallery below for a scene report (All photos by Brie Lakin). And check out Milk & Honey on June 16th.
We’d like to thank Sun Bum and YETI for making this film and premiere possible.
