Mikey February, Alex Knost, Alice Coltrane, And 11 Minutes Of Perfect Mexican Drainpipes
A twin fin and a bonzer walk into a sandbar…
“Seeing someone like Mikey on your board puts the proof in your pudding whether your stuff works or not,” said Alex Knost, during the filming of the recent Electric Acid Surfboard Test.
“What’s the term? Like, he could ride a dinner table or whatever? Well, he can,” chuckled Alex. “He unlocks a call-and-response sort of jazz-style of surfing.”
It makes sense then, that their latest clip together features the eclectic musical trappings of Joe Henderson and Alice Coltrane; both pioneers of American spiritual jazz.
Alex and Mikey February have spent the past few years collaborating on and developing a handful of surfboards together — and making films together.
“Al’s super rad,” says Mikey. “On the outside he comes across real casual, but at the same time I feel he’s calculated. It comes off very free-flowing though.”
Though Mikey is riding his trademark Febs Fish in the footage above, you can click here to watch him experimenting with one of Al’s longer twinzers in EAST.
