Mikey Feb Rides A Tom Curren Relic At ‘The Biggest Rincon In A Decade’

“Imagine being able to go that fast”

“For me, the highlight was on the big day, Mikey Febs and I paddled out, and he was on a 7’8 my dad had shaped for Tom Curren,” says Britt Merrick. “Walking up the beach with Mikey and that board during the biggest swell in at least a decade, I had a lot of good feelings.”

As Britt alludes to, many comparisons were made to this recent Rincon swell and ones of similar magnitude that have rattled through the Southern California Bight over the years. Though many noted that this recent energy-blast was not as clean nor as good as it gets, one can’t deny that it was still tremendously impressive.

Plus, two weeks straight of waves through every headland in the southern 805 doesn’t sound like something to complain about

Does the wave famously wrangled by Rennie Yater remain the standard for ‘big’ Rincon?

With whitewash to the horizon, a beach full of Channel Islands test pilots, and a handful of new designs — including the Dumpster Diver 2 and a new CI Fish— the above clip is an easy watch.

Not sure if Mikey Feb’s surfing on the red fish, the Curren board, the Mid Twin, or the Twin Pin was more impressive. Either way, the South African (and his party wave with Britt) dominated this edit.
