Meet The Crew Using Compacted Mushrooms To Repair Surfboards
A surf trip using only low-tech innovations.
In October of 2020, Professional surfer and gifted filmmaker Damien Castera climbed aboard the “Nomade des Mers,” a self-sustaining catamaran operated by low-tech innovators Corentin de Chatelperron, Guenolé Conrad, and Caroline Pultz. Damien joined the eco-friendly pirate crew to make a documentary covering their eco-friendly lifestyle.
The group’s goal was to sail across the world while leaving as little of a carbon footprint as possible. They did this by growing their own food, cooking with a solar-powered oven, and even using compacted mushroom roots to repair their surfboards. Ask your local ding repair guy/gal about the structural integrity of mycelium fungi. I dare you.
Plus, it’s worth noting that the film was also made by an organic, B Corp brand.
Watch the latest in the world of low-tech innovation here. Oh, and English subtitles are available if you’re French isn’t quite up to par.
