Kelly Slater Just Got Hip Surgery — Here’s What We Know

“The doctor said it looked like a warzone when he got in to have a look”

As I was cruising through Instagram during the 15-minute lull at the start of the Carissa/Caroline title duel, my mindless tapping was stopped by none other than the GOAT.

Left leg propped up and well-supported, Kelly posted a story mentioning that he was ‘on the couch post hip surgery.’

In line with Stab’s recent habit of interviewing people on painkillers, I reached out to see what the deal was.

“I re-injured it at Bells in 2022 and have struggled since,” Kelly said. “I’ve probably needed surgery since a few years ago but it’s been pretty tough since that last injury or strain. The doctor said it was way past due and looked like a warzone when he got in to have a look. I’m probably lucky to have gotten this far on it but it makes me feel better knowing why I’ve been in so much pain for so long. Should be good in a few months.”

Here’s to hoping the new and improved bionic Slades will be back to fulfill next seasons wildcard — and that some extended couch time will lead to more digital discourse from the most accomplished surfer of all time.
