Kelly Slades Preps For Wavepool Comp On Predictably Experimental Sleds

After what many referred to as the ‘worst spring ever’ (it was), California’s surf-craving coastlines have finally had a relieving run of spritely south swell. 

Hard to say if it’s the El Niño related sea temp rise or just Poseidon rewarding us for our doting patience, but it’s been firing. Real firing.

After telling us that he has hardly prepared for the upcoming Surf Ranch contest — and that he was going to head south to test some boards — Kelly Slater popped up in our YT recs doing just that.

Out at a sizable-albeit-wobbly day at the 2% wavepool, Kelly tests two boards — one of which appears to have double carbon stringers.

Despite the somewhat confusing video transitions, Kelly still looks unmistakably Kelly.
