Kanoa Igarashi Named ‘GQ Man Of The Year’
Begging the question: what would have happened if he’d won gold?
It was recently announced that Olympic silver medalist, number 8 on the WSL Championship Tour, and international playboy Kanoa Igarashi is a GQ Japan Man of the Year.
And yes, we meant to write a GQ Japan Man of the Year — not the GQ Japan Man of the Year. Because apparently there are many of them, including JP THE WAVY, Kitamura Takumi, Arimura Kasumi, Shison Jun, all of whom I assume you’re familiar with.
Is this multi-winner award an extension of participation trophy culture, or are the Japanese just overly generous? We can’t say for sure, but regardless we’d like to congratulate Kanoa for his achievement. The fact that he finds the time to do all those non-endemic photo shoots, finish eighth in the world, win an Olympic silver, and still kick the shit out of some QS surfers is wildly impressive.
Guy’s got energy and finesse.
