In their trademark style, Vans Surf is kicking off Winter in the Cape of Good Hope, with all the lighthearted levity of Summer in SoCal.

Longboards, soft tops, and smiles will abound amongst the South Atlantic peelers of Muizenberg, South Africa, where the most recent installation of the Vans Duct Tape Festival will take place July 1-3, 2022.

Highlighting style, innovation, inclusivity, and creativity (in no particular order), the boundary-breaking surf series briefly known as ‘the Duct Tape’ has transcended even its own already-bendy rules over recent years. What began strictly as a surfing contest between the globe’s most progressive and creative longboarding icons, has organically transformed into so much more than that. Now, in its 10th year of frivolity, the invitational-turned-festival is taking on a more communal role than ever.

This latest iteration of the Joel-judged international event will simultaneously boast some of the most talented loggers from every hemisphere, while inviting local communities and spectators to engage directly with athletes and local artists and artisans, fostering new connections and, most importantly, fun.

Not only will attendees of this weekend’s event enjoy the trimming, sliding, and noseriding exploits of DTI veterans like Karina Rozunko, Justin Quintal, Andy Nieblas, and Lola Mignot, along with rising talents like Izzie Henshall, Tosh Tudor, Hallie Rohr, and dozens more; Vans team riders Lee-Ann Curren, Shane Sykes, Samuel Partaix and local favorite, Mikey February will also be making Cape-Townian cameos with their hand-shaped crafts for locals and renowned loggers alike to test the seaworthiness of. Add to that a lekker roster of live bands, DJs, community workshops, and a beach cleanup, and it’s a guarantee that vibes will be at an all-time high for the South African Duct Tape Festival.
