Jonah Hill Discusses His Favorite Wax, Surfboard, And Malibu’s Surf Nazi Culture
GQ’s 10 essentials never disappoints.
It’s no secret that Jonah Hill has become firmly entrenched in Malibu’s surf scene.
The Academy Award-winning actor/director has found surfing late in life, but don’t take him for some mere novice. A self-proclaimed workaholic and one of our generation’s finest on-screen creatives, Hill has managed to climb to the mountaintop via an obsessive need to both understand and show respect to the different cultures in which he engrains himself. Surfing is just the latest, but in listening to the way he speaks about it, we’re sure he’ll be slipping into Malibu runners for decades to come.
GQ Style’s latest cover star discusses his newfound passion at length, telling readers he ‘makes himself surf everyday.’ As a part of their editorial smorgasbord, GQ also managed to get Jonah to do one of their infamous 10 Essential videos. In the mix was a bar of Sex Wax, a red 88 soft top that the Beastie Boy’s Mike Diamond nicknamed ‘Ron Burgundy’, and custom Surf Jews stickers in a tongue-in-cheek reference to the Surf Nazi culture that was proliferated throughout Malibu after the second world war.
As a side note: Jonah Hill also refers to vapes as mouth fedoras, which is probably the best one-liner you’ll hear this week.
