The shortest event (8 days) on this year’s tour schedule is about to start.

Here’s who will and won’t be surfing in it.

Out

  • Kelly Slater
  • John Florence
  • Seth Moniz
  • Tyler Wright

In

  • Gabriel Medina (season wildcard)
  • Yago Dora (replacing Kelly Slater)
  • Joao Chianca (event wildcard)
  • Miguel Tudela (replacing Seth Moniz)
  • Michael Rodrigues (replacing John Florence)
  • Mateus Herdy (replacing Barron Mamiya)
  • Caroline Marks (WSL wildcard)
  • Sally Fitzgibbons (replacing Tyler Wright)
  • Sol Aguirre (trials winner)

The Rio Pro will begin June 23 and finish June 30.

How excited should we be?

Ho hum.

1000 airs, maybe a sucky tube or two, heaps of obrigado de deus’ing.

At least we got Joao.

He will go ham.

He told Stab previously this is an event he was incredibly excited for.

Pity it won’t be twenty-five foot because he would still be going ham.

Here is the forecast.

Hey at least this will be over quickly.
