Jet Ski Runs Over Nazaré Paddler, Breaks Board In Two
“If there’s a guy paddling next to you, run away.”
Nazaré did its thing last week. A squadron of tow teams crossed fields of whitewater and slingshotted their partners down an absurd amount of rapidly rising water. Click here for those highlights.
The swell has dropped significantly since then, and on Sunday, a crew proceeded to paddle the beach break at a much more reasonable size. But there was still a fleet of jet skis buzzing around the lineup. According to a post on Instagram, one of the ski drivers ran over a man and his board yesterday. So far as we know, the surfer is all good, the same can’t be said for the gun.
“We saw a major accident today because there are too many jet skis in the water,” says a man on the beach who can only be described as a water patrol savior giving a stern lecture.
The news comes a day after Buck and Mikey pondered if Nazaré has effectively become the Mount Everest of surfing, in that seemingly anyone with enough time and money can take on one of the most astounding wonders on the planet, while at the same time overcrowding a dangerous and untamable place.
Mexican charger and Nazaré standout Coco Nogales chimed in as well on yesterday’s news, commenting, “Finally people are speaking. This is getting out of control, sooo many good days for paddle and this year I seen sooo many jet skis driving around the surfers when is a day for paddling.”
