Hughie Vaughan’s Guide To The Surfing Universe
What life is like on the road (and at home) for the Stab High champ.
Presented by Creatures of Leisure.
When you spend most of your time in cars, planes, boats, and whatever vehicle gets you to surf, whether for love or money, home begins to feel exotic, and not dragging a surfboard coffin en route to the tropics actually becomes a dreamy prospect.
There really is something about just throwing a naked board in the back of the car, driving exactly the length of the song you’ve had on repeat lately, and parking in view of the place where you’ve clocked up the most water time since childhood.
There’s an ease and lightness to it that’s hard to replicate. This feels even truer if you grew up on the Central Coast of NSW and have been surfing since the age of two, like our only 2x Stab High winner Hughie Vaughan.
As the hottest young ticket in a good while, and the undisputed owner of a never not jaw-dropping lien flip, travelling isn’t something Hughie can avoid, and it’s what he spends most of the year doing.
In a Cheat Codes adjacent format, Hughie shares some of his travel hacks and wisdom: his preference for Hong Kong Airport Maccas over airplane food, why surfing with brother Joel Vaughan feels different from surfing with his brothers Zach and Curtis, thoughts on golf and surfing style, and a bucket-list trip to big Cloudy with Ethan Ewing, Molly Picklum, and Griffin Colapinto “to see who wants it more.”
