Hawaii’s Triple Header Is Back… Under A Different Naming Convention
The first of three QS 2000 events at Haleiwa, Sunset and Pipeline starts tomorrow.
In lieu of the Vans Triple Crown—a three-venue gauntlet that once bookended the CT season and separated lions from kittens (i.e. filtered out the flicky grovellers who made the tour without ever engaging a rail)—then went digital, then went dead, three new QS 2000s have stepped in to fill the void.
This season will see three Hawaiian QS events at Sunset, Haleiwa, and Pipe, featuring a heavily Hawaiian field.
It’s short shrift for losing a prestigious heritage event, but better than nothing—and HTA and the Florence crew have kindly stepped in to help bankroll it.
The Sunset draw (kicking off tomorrow) is stacked. Headliners include: multi-CT winner Barron Mamiya, Mason Ho, Zeke Lau, Billy Kemper, Imai Devault, Landon McNamara (2024 Eddie Aikau winner), Dusty Payne, and young guns Legend Chandler, Steve Robertson, and Jackson Dorian.
On the women’s side: Pipe-whisperer Moana Jones Wong, Stab High winners Kiara Goold and Skai Suitt, and nine-time national champ Pua DeSoto.
Kaips will be on the mic, so guaranteed giggles between all the action.
