Have There Been Significantly Fewer Indonesian Surf Clips In 2023?

Watch Parker Coffin and the CI Team re-invigorate our infatuation with the scattered isles.

Indonesia was in fashion last year.

COVID restrictions were stripped back, international travelers were welcomed — and all of your favorite surfers bumrushed Denpasar in hopes of being the first to drop their post-lockdown Indonesian choreography.

And then, over the course of the dry-season, the market for high-def footage of the Indian Ocean became saturated.

Last year, between May 1st and September 15th, we ran 25 Indonesian focused surf clips and stories on the main feed of our site, along with countless social media clips and sidebar content.

And, truth be told, it got a bit tiresome.

It’s hard to denigrate the beauty of Indonesia, but even perfection, consumed indulgently enough, can become mundane.

This year, in exactly the same timeframe, we’ve only had 13 Indonesian focused clips on the main feed — just about half the amount.

Though we thought this content withdrawal might have been the result of a lackluster swell season, Tai ‘Buddha’ Graham disputed our thoughts. “All depends where you’ve been going,” he said. “I’ve been getting very barreled, but I guess some of the usual spots haven’t lit up as much. Although, I had a wicked Ments trip in April. Honestly, it’s been pretty nice.”

Either way, this self-correction of the surf clip market has been a nice reprieve, because it means we can truly enjoy the edits — like this one — that arrive in our inbox.

Above, watch Parker Coffin, Kian Martin, Ryuki Waida, and their Channel Islands compatriots tearing on the brand’s undeniably versatile ’70s skate template.
