Gabriel Medina Is Made Available For Picking At Bells On The WSL Fantasy App
Is Rip Curl’s prize fighter making a return at the Rip Curl Pro?
At the end of last year, 3x World Champ Gabriel Medina said he might be giving the 2022 season a miss.
Per his interview with Lance, “I need to stop thinking about competition for a while, because everything I do today, food, routine… It’s all focused on competition. I never missed a step. It’s been hard to do this for years. I think the time has come when I need to take a break,” said Medina.
Gabs stayed true to his word, at least for the first three events, remaining at home in Sao Paulo citing time to process personal struggles re: a divorce and a complex family-business feud over the Gabriel Medina Institute. Since, surf fans have awaited Gabs return as the tour’s great alpha to restore some semblance of order in what’s been a very chaotic start to the season.
Gabs fans could be in luck. It should be noted taken The World Surf League’s Fantasy Surfer app, has listed picks for surfers in the upcoming Bells contest and Gabriel Medina is available for choosing. He was not available to fantasizers for either the Billabong Pipeline Pro nor the Hurley Pro Sunset.

While we will hold our tongues on announcing a sure start, there are a couple of reasons why Gabby showing up at Bells makes sense. 1.) It is the Rip Curl Pro Bells and Gabs is their prize-fighter, 2.) The WSL has a direct line with Gabs and have not previously listed him as a pick at any of the other CT venues. Gabriel currently has 17 CT wins, none of them have been at Bells. The Bells event window run from Apr 10 – 20.
The WSL told us “He has not officially withdrawn from Bells yet so he’s in at the moment”.
