A Stab Highway Microdose At Rocky Point
Finn McGill and Shion Crawford export your favorite challenges to warmer water
You might know Finnegan Thunders McGill as the convivial young fellow who lived in a wetsuit for eight days and won the “worst haircut” award during Stab Highway East Coast Presented By Monster Energy.
“I was super bummed on getting eliminated first on the Blue Team so Shion and I spent 24 hours at Rocky Point to see how many of the surf challenges we could check off,” Finn explained.
Finn’s an enterprising 24-year-old, winning the WSL World Junior Championship in 2017, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing in 2023, and even a QS event in Tahiti just last year. He was also the person who popularized the backside indy grab.

To accomplish his very own Stab Highway iteration, Finn recruited his friend Shion Crawford, who, at 20 years old, snagged arguably the Wave of the Winter and landed a candidate for best backside air of all time just last month.
If you hadn’t heard, Mr. Crawford is what’s next out of the North Shore. Look for him in the forthcoming Bum Rush at Rocky Point, dropping next month on Stab. Hint: Shion does not disappoint.

And while the point of Finn’s challenge was to knock off as many surf challenges as possible and ignore the land challenges, the team did decide to include one terranean exploit…
One point per beer guzzled. Not a hard one to include.
We applaud Finn’s noble effort and invite anybody in Stab’s audience to host their own Highways — just send us the clips.
