Costa Rican Surf Icon Gilbert Brown Shatters His Leg At Salsa Brava

Gilbert Brown is one of the OG professional surfers from Costa Rica. Hailing from the Caribbean coast, Gilbert has built his life around surfing and embodies the Pura Vida lifestyle that defines Costa Rican culture. He’s also a huge proponent of his country’s next generation, giving ample guidance and support to surfers like Carlos Muñoz and the Caribbean’s growing fleet of tomb raiders. But recently, Gilbert had an accident at his home break of Salsa Brava. After pulling into a tube, Gilbert smashed in to the reef and shattered his tibia and fibula. He needs immediate reconstructive surgery, which does not come cheap. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gilbert Brown (@gilbertbrown) From Gilbert’s GoFundMe: The 4X Costarican National Champion needs us on an emergency basis to cover his tibia and fibula fracture’s emergency surgery.  A recovery period is ahead for Gilbert Brown and the results depend big on this surgery. The most Pura Vida man needs us, we can all help, and the only thing against us is time. The emergency surgery must be done no later than Wednesday. But we need at least $10 000 (ten thousand dollars) to cover the surgery ($6000) and medication, recovery expenses and first necessities during that process where Gilbert Brown won’t be able to generate any income his own. Gilbert Brown got injured in Salsa Brava last Sunday, doing what he does best and at his favorite place. Someone so loved by we all deserves the chance to have the best possible surgery for an athlete who can’t burry his career or his lifestyle yet.  Donate here
