Breaking: Son Of Beloved Floridian Power Surfer Also Rips

Kepa Mendia has the gene.

Remember that 13-year old who snuck a perfect Backdoor wave under Gabby and Italo  — on the WSL webcast — prior to their 2019 Billabong Pipe Masters showdown?

No?

Well, surely you remember Kaipo’s review of the kid’s blue railed 5’0 x 16 1/2 inch equipment (a glorious Guerrero-ism.)

The boy in question — Kepa Mendia — has grown up a lot since then, heading on a steady trajectory towards his father Pete’s historically revered power.

Here we have the 16-year olds latest jaunt through the Kandui Resort amusement park, distilled into a digital soup of aquamarine tubes and techno for consumption in under two minutes. A different sort of Electric Blue Heaven than one might be otherwise familiar with.

Though we can’t say for sure if Kepa will grow some mutton-chops and begin displacing comparable CC’s of water to Papa Pete, it’s clear that he’s becoming a terrific surfer in his own right. The technical base is there, so hopefully he keeps eating his gator tots (or whatever they feed kids in Florida.)

Between the Dorians and the Mendias, Billabong sure has their father-son bases covered. How good would a double father-son clip be?
