Anybody Surprised That Matt Biolos Continues To Lead Shaper Rankings After Lowers?

Four surfers finaled at Lowers, with just two brands under their feet. 

Erin Brooks beat Gabriela Bryan in an all-Lost women’s final, while Miguel Pupo took down Kanoa Igarashi in an all-JS men’s final.

The Lexus Trestles Pro was CT stop nine, and Biolos used his home court about as effectively as possible. Beyond putting Brooks and Bryan into the final, Biolos had five of the eight semifinalists riding Mayhems: Brooks, Bryan, Sawyer Lindblad, Yago Dora and Cole Houshmand.

Plus, quarterfinal appearances from wildcard Eden Walla and five-time World Champ Carissa Moore.

Scientifically speaking, that’s a fuckload of surfboards still in the pointy end of the draw.

Brooks eventually took the win, her third straight CT victory this season, while Mayhem strengthened his position atop the Surfboard Empire Shaper Rankings presented by Veia.

Jason Stevenson, meanwhile, posted his best event of the season.

Miguel Pupo and Kanoa Igarashi made it an all-JS men’s final, with Pupo taking the win, while Marco Mignot and Mateus Herdy also reached the quarters.

That result further solidified JS’ place inside the top five and extended his lead in the men’s-only Shaper Rankings.

DHD remains No. 2 overall, helped at Lowers by Molly Picklum’s semifinal and Callum Robson’s quarterfinal. Sharp Eye sits third overall, with Luana Silva and Jake Marshall both making quarterfinals. Channel Islands sits fifth after Lowers, with Bella Kenworthy providing their best result.
