Anchor Point Cooks as QS Finalists Rack Up 19-Point Heat Totals
Ramzi Boukhaim’s rampage fetched a 9.83 and a 9.17 — but it still wasn’t enough.
QS events aren’t something Stab typically covers—unless the conditions are exceptional, or some juicy side stories emerge.
This one had both. We already touched on the Morocco QS 3,000 in reference to our pal Vasco Ribeiro, a former World Junior Champ who got absolutely shafted by the ISA’s hardline stance on athletes declining drug tests. Initially given the green light to compete at the WSL’s Taghazout event, Vasco was later barred due to that bureaucratic mess. More on that fiasco here.
But the other newsworthy feature of this event? A men’s final that saw both finalists post heat totals north of 19-points.

Ramzi Boukhiam at Anchor Point is something else. He’s honed his backhand on these Moroccan walls to an almost unfair degree, and the packed beach crowd was there to watch their guy put on a show. Jorgann Couzinet, however, wasn’t playing supporting actor. The former Taghazout runner-up had been in lethal form all event, and in the final, he and Ramzi pushed each other to absurd levels.
Couzinet struck first, dropping early excellent scores with his powerful forehand. But Boukhiam, with the entire town of Agadir behind him, answered back with a near-perfect 9.83 and a 9.17—the kind of surfing that makes you wonder why he’s still on the QS.
It all came down to a razor-thin margin. Couzinet edged Boukhiam by just 0.17 points, locking in a 19.17 heat total (out of a possible 20). It was an instant-classic kind of final—the type of heat that would’ve gone viral if, you know, there had actually been a webcast.
What It Means
- Jorgann Couzinet: Moves from sixth to first on the WSL Europe QS rankings, putting him in prime position to qualify for the Challenger Series.
- Ramzi Boukhiam: Heads to Portugal for the next CT stop with a massive confidence boost and undeniable proof that he belongs on tour full-time.

Oh, and the Women’s Side?
While the men’s final stole the show, Francisca Veselko took the women’s title, with Janire Gonzalez Etxabarri finishing runner-up. It wasn’t a 19-point shootout, but Veselko surfed smart, controlled, and walked away with a huge QS 3,000 win that keeps her career momentum rolling.
So yeah, QS events aren’t usually our thing. But when Anchor Point looks like a CT stop, and the finalists throw down all-time heat totals, we’re paying attention.
