Introducing: Teahupo’o’s Next Woman In Line
Vahine Fierro has some competition.
Did you know that Vahine Fierro has a young, tube-adept Tahitian nipping at her heels? And that she happens to be the sister of a GOAT-killing Teahupo’o wildcard?
Introducing 17-year-old Aelan Vaast.
You may remember that Aelan’s older brother, Kauli, scorched the men’s CT field (and Kelly) en route to a second-place finish at Teahupo’o this August. Aelan is also proving to be a savvy competitor beyond just pristine barrels — she and her big bro both won the Azores Pro Junior earlier this month.
Speaking of competition, there’s a big one coming to the end of the road in a couple years. In all likelihood, Johanne Defay (via the CT) and Vahine Fierro (via the ISA World Games) will don the red, white and blue for the 2024 Paris Olympics (Tahiti is a French territory). But it never hurts to have a backup.
Aelan’s Blue Lines edit establishes her as one of the best female tube-riders on the planet, full-stop. Probably why she got invited to the 2022 Vans Pipe Masters.
Watch above, and don’t you dare forget the name.
