Following CT Axing, G-Land Arches Back For Ace Buchan

This is what you could’ve had, E Lo.

If he were still on tour, Ace Buchan no doubt would want (this version) of G-Land on the Championship Tour schedule.

Despite 14 (!) full seasons on the CT, the former surfer’s rep didn’t get as many opportunities as the regularfoots to find scores going frontside on left-facing reefs or points. In fact, you could argue goofs are still not getting a fair shake, especially with the mid-year cut in play

But as it happens, Ace got the reef of his dreams without a jersey on. Returning to G-Land for the first time in 25 years, the clip above was shot in a single-day blitz. Fifty years ago, when the wave was first being explored, it was the kind of day you’d recall in your dirt-caked journal. These days, it gets likes on YouTube.

But while the spitting tubes are certainly worth ogling over, Ace’s surfing deserves to be highlighted. The 40-year-old spent more than a decade on surfing’s highest competitive level, and based on the evidence above, he’s still able to order wraps bigger than anything you’ll get at the local deli.

Watch Cantik Ombak then do whatever you have to do so you can surf like this when you’re 40.
