A Week Of Finners, Fog, And Lofty Backside Straight Airs In The Iberian Peninsula

Ever gotten skunked on a surf trip while it’s firing at home?

There’s only one sort of surf-FOMO worse than watching your friends score waves on a surf trip while you’re sitting at home; getting skunked on your surf trip while your friends score waves at home.

Though Charly Quivront has a habit of finding glorious surf in lands far removed from his beloved Hossegor, everyone gets skunked sometimes.

“Gatien [Delahaye] and I were in Portugal for the Challenger Series last year,” he tells me. “We’d planned the trip for a really long time, and when we got there the waves were pretty average. There was so much fog every damn day, the swell wasn’t so great, and it was raining. Then, it started firing at home in France. We definitely got skunked,” he laughs.

Should you click on the video, however, you’ll see that the playful corners which the Frenchman describes as a skunking would still be a god-send for your average Floridian right now.

The latest episode of Où Est Charly features Quivront and Delahaye making mincemeat of various Portuguese sections — and showcasing a previously veiled aerial artillery on both fronts.

Charly has also been hoarding clips on a hard-drive for quite some time, and he told me that he’s just putting the final Indonesian touches on his 2023 Stab Edit Of The Year entry.

We’re looking forward to it.
