A Pipeline Reel In June, How Clever

Jackson Bunch knows how to work a lineup (and an algorithm).

With the amount of content pushed along by the algorithm these days, it’s become increasingly difficult for a young surfer to stop the senseless scrolling. We’re numbed to Superman’s in Waco, Indonesian cave-diving, and Nazaré wipeout compilations.

Hawaii’s Jackson Bunch looks determined to halt thumbs and look good doing it. In his Pipeline reel above, which is being published cleverly in June rather than February, Jackson shows both small wave acuity and balls of bronze. With a sturdy helmet, pink rails and plenty of guts, Jackson swings on the ugly ones at Pipe, pulls backflips at Ehukai Beach Park and lands and full rotations at Rocky Point.

Jackson is part of the next crop of Quiksilver’s Young Guns, an international grouping of late-teens that includes Rio Waida, Mateus Herdy, Joel Vaughan, Kauli Vaast, Kade Matson, Noa Dupouy and Riaru Ito. The team is constructed to have guys with different approaches, specialties and personalities. If Jackson is going to be the Pipe guy, he’s off to a good start (but don’t sleep on Riaru!).
