Turns Out Desert Point Is An Acceptable Surrogate For Mundaka
Pinkies up, this kid surfs with class.
Fourteen-year-old Koldo Illumbe is half-Basque and half-Balinese. With Mundaka and Uluwatu at his dual-doorsteps (not to mention Desert Point a mere island-hop away), it doesn’t take a rocket surgeon to compute how the kid got so comfy in reeling, left-hand tubes.
Nor, for that matter, why Vans recently added Koldo to their roster. Blending style and performance has always been Vans’ MO, and Koldo’s new edit Tropic Glide fits their message to a T.
The kid’s upright posture in underground Indonesian cylinders is pure elegance. There’s a distinct difference between soul arching on the shoulder and soul arching under a massive Indonesian curtain. One is redundant, the other deserves your eyeballs. Watch above.
