A Poolside Love Affair – And the winner is…

As of five o’clock EST on friday afternoon, Stab‘s search for the best pair of surf trunks ever made, which we called A Poolside Love Affair, came to a close. We invited 11 companies to create their best surf trunks, free from the restrictions of budget, retail and construction. The play was to be as creative as possible, use rare materials, get a little fruity, then make a short film about the creation of the them.

There were 13,318 votes placed in the end, and the majority of them were for The Critical Slide Society. “For us, the bright lights in this trunk are the attention to detail in areas that quite often get overlooked such as the double-layered internal pockets, contrast panels on internal hems, a great, soft wash, and a super-cute little beach bag to carry the things in,” says the trunk’s architect, Rama McCabe.

And, what about creative inspiration? “I’ve been listening to Serge Gainsbourg on repeat these past few months along with Googling every photo of the guy I could,” continues Rama. “So, I came into this with wanting to design something that the legend himself wouldn’t mind coming back from the dead for and venturing to some rig-riddled pool party in the South of France.”

With a committed campaign based around their social media networks, The Critical Slide Society led the contest from real early in the piece, and scooped 2,674 votes in total.

Stab offers a proverbial champagne shower to The Critical Slide Society, and metaphorical back-pat to all who entered and voted.
