Which CT Surfers Have Chosen Not To Surf In Lemoore?
With Coco Ho and Nat Young confirmed, what teen stars and QS grinders will get wildcards?
We just heard whispers of some lineup changes for the upcoming CT event at the Surf Ranch in Lemoore, CA.
Rumor has it that Sally Fitzgibbons, Tyler Wright, Bronte Macaulay, an unconfirmed fourth surfer have dropped out of the event on the women’s side. While none of the ladies have made an official announcement, the presumed reasons are due to Covid travel restrictions in Australia. Opting out of yet another two-week staycation at hotel quarantine does seem like a reasonable decision.
Out of this group, Sally’s decision seems the most questionable. She is currently in second place in the WSL rankings and has already left Australia to compete in the ISA World Games in El Salvador, which she won. Sally also had a strong showing at Lemoore in 2019, dropping one of the highest scores of the event and earning 5th place points. We’ll keep you posted as we learn more.
Their spots will be filled by Alyssa Spencer, Caity Simmers, and Kirra Pinkerton. The selection of young adults from Southern California’s overwhelming talent pool is an expected tactic. As you may recall, the WSL awarded wildcards to Jett Schilling and Crosby Colapinto last time this event ran.
We’ve also learned that Coco Ho, a co-star in our most recent Electric Acid Surfboard Test, will be taking the unconfirmed fourth surfer’s slot. Coco is surfing at a level that most would agree is her best, and we wouldn’t be surprised by a top 3 finish. We also wouldn’t be surprised if our little acid test experiment corrupted her thruster-centric focus, and she surfed the entire event on a twin fin.
On the men’s side, Julian Wilson made the decision to pull out and is currently in hotel quarantine in Australia. The wildcards for the men’s event will be given to Nat Young and Michael Dunphy.
The event will start on June 18, about 100 miles from the nearest ocean. Lemoore, however, is reportedly beautiful this time of year.
