Devastating Floods Lead To State Of Emergency on the North Shore

Heavy rain over the past two days has led to severe flooding throughout parts of Hawaii.

Haleiwa was affected heavily as floodwater rose from four to 16 feet, with residents describing their houses being overrun within minutes of the stream’s arrival. Police blocked entrances to the town of 4,000 as Gov. David Ige declared a state of emergency at 4 PM, freeing up state funds to provide aid to those affected families.

Thankfully, the evacuation order was lifted as of 12:30 AM on Wednesday. With residents home heavily affected there is still need for aid in the form of volunteer work as well as furniture and cleaning supplies.
