Crosby Colapinto Scores A CT Wildcard For The Newcastle Cup
“The Hawaii season was a little confidence booster.”
This winter’s North Shore standouts were the Colapinto Brothers. Not much argument against that, but feel free to express your ridiculous counterarguments in the comments.
Crosby’s rapidly maturing skill set has earned him a wildcard into the Rip Curl Newcastle Cup. With Kelly out, that means Mikey Wright will take the GOAT’s spot, and the available wildcard will go to the younger Colapinto offspring.
According to the WSL:
Crosby was already in Australia when he got the news, having made the trip with Griff who is currently no.17 on the Championship Tour rankings. He’s right now sitting out his two-week spell in hotel quarantine in Sydney – a chore all the more bearable knowing he’s got a chance to compete against the world’s best at a time when his surfing is in top form.
Honestly, someone should check on the Crozz; he’s been on a real wave bender. He’s actively beat the covid blues with a few months in Indo, parlayed straight into winter in Hawaii, and now a surprise trip to Oz. “I feel like going away from home for that long has really polished my surfing,” Crosby said.
This won’t be Crosby’s debut in a Jersey, either. You may recall seeing him during the 2019 season at the Rip Curl Pro In Portgual and the Freshwater Pro. While he ended up placing 17th in both events, he feels confident for Newcastle. “I’m really excited because when I did the CTs for the Surf Ranch and Portugal, I felt kinda young and immature with my surfing.”
The days of immaturity are over, clearly. We’re excited for this one, give em hell Crosby.
