Central California Surfers (Illegally) Save Child Sailors From Large Swells
Surfers are not legally permitted to surf this wave. But what would have happened if they weren’t around?
Yesterday, one of the biggest swells in recent memory hit Northern California. You probably saw a few of the waves from Maverick’s.
The same NW pulse that sent Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker plummeting from such great heights turned a Central California harbor mouth into a slightly-overhead, below-sea-level point break.
Spot name: redacted.
It’s here that local surfers made the heroic rescue of a fleet of a child-sailors yesterday afternoon.
The interesting thing is that surfers are not legally allowed to surf this break. In fact, the local Harbor Patrol has made it their mission to ticket and confiscate surfboards for the past decade.
But what would have happened if the surfers weren’t there yesterday? Stay tuned for a full investigation soon.
