There’s A 5-Star Resort Right On The Sand At Skeleton Bay

Who knew?

Did you know?

Along Namibia’s Skeleton Coast resides not only the best wave known to man, but also a 5-star resort for people who really really want to get away from it all.

The Pelican Point Lodge is a lighthouse oasis built upon Namibia’s most famous sandspit. Within the small structural confines are ten private suites, each of which offers a slightly different view of the point and/or interior aesthetic. Some of the suite names include: The Ocean Suite, The Seal Suite, The Oyster Suite, and The Captain’s Cove Suite.

Despite its remote location (the closest town, Walvis Bay, is over 20 miles by car), the Pelican Point Lodge offers world class amenities, including but not limited to: one to one service, scrumptious dining, complete privacy, and the sound of jackals howling as you make your nightly subconscious transcendence.

Daily activities at PPL  include:
– Guided walks with the seals, jackals, flamingoes, pelicans, cormorants, terns and many more.
– Sundowners at the tip of the Peninsula
– Guided Peninsula drives, featuring the Ramsar site, the Skeleton Bay surfers hotspot, the shipwreck, the Jetty, the absolute Point and the wildlife,
– Strolling on the beach on your own pace is strongly recommended and is part of the Pelican Point Lodge Experience.
– Shipwreck at walking distance

Now this all sounds fine and dandy, but if you’re already spending a few gees on flights just to arrive in Namibia, you might not want to break the bank on accom. So just how much does a night at the Pelican Point Lodge cost?

According to their site, the cheapest room is around $400 per night, per person, while the premium suite, which offers a 360-degree view of the point swings as high as $750 per head.

Considering the Lodge’s proximity to the wave (walking distance!), this might be worth your while for a one or two night venture.

Just to be sure, we should check some of the hotel reviews:

“The place itself is magnificent. The sand peninsula was a marvel. The view extraordinary. The staff super. Every meal was a real treat. The best!” said Bente from Norway.

“We chose this place because it is located at the end of the world and very beautiful ! The road to get there is quite difficult and you need to master properly your 4×4. It was fun and unusual to drive on the sand! “ said Gabrielle from France.

PelicanPoint lodge

Quaint is an understatement. Remote hardly captures it.

And that pretty much settles it. If you love surfing and hate people, and you have money but don’t enjoy conventional ways of spending it, the Pelican Point Lodge might just be your dream surf destination. Just watch out for the jackals.
