Always carry protection!

Without the right equipment, travelling with boards can be a maddening affair. Heavy, tattered coffins being dragged through the baggage check at dawn, that handler who always overlooks the “Fragile, Handle With Care” sign, cabbies herniating disks heaving soggy weight atop his roof…

For those of you that have happily embraced minimalism, unlike say, those double-coffin-baggers on tour, travelling with two to three boards is all you really need.

As long as they’re protected.

Stab have taken the liberty of picking out five of the best board bags in the current climate, for boards under 7’, from brands trusted by the elite with their most prized possessions. These won’t guarantee the longevity of your travelling craft, but it’s a step towards peace of mind.

fcs

FCS Triple Travel All Purpose Cover

This all-purpose case is made of 10mm Dual Density padding, which provides protection against drops. The outer shell is covered in a heavy duty polyester skin. FCS want you to be pulling out intact rails, so they added internal protection along the long-life marine zippers paths. Like all good bags, this one features some hidden pockets, do with them what you wish. However, FCS recommend wax, leashes and fins. FCS has kindly included a set of tie downs because we know you forgot yours.

prolite

Pro-Lite Finless Coffin Travel Bag

Pro-Lite has made a lasting impression on the community. With full transparency, they make sure you’re certain of the prices airlines will charge to carry your beloved weapons on board. The bags won’t waive any fees, but you’ll know what to expect, at least.

This Finless Coffin is 5” deep and features a Denier Poly combination with a 10mm foam crust. The stowaway pockets are located inside the hood, allowing for ease of access to fins, wax, keys, and ropes upon arrival. It also features a moulded non-corrosive zipper, which will ensure smooth movement for the lifespan of the bag and additional extras include one internal divider, ventilated external pockets and a set of tie downs. This bag is designed for finless travelling, if that’s not for you, this bag ain’t either.

dakine

Dakine Regulator 2.0 Triple Surfboard Bag

The revised 2.0 Regulator has a Limited Lifetime Warranty, meaning if the bag breaks and it ain’t your fault they replace it. This stealthy black number has just the right amount of yellow, which of course won’t ensure your sticks arrive at the destination intact. It features a durable polyester top with ripstop in the high tension points. It has a heat reflecting energy shield bottom to keep your steeds cool the whole trip, a padded removable strap, and an internal stash pocket for…

creatures

Creatures Of Leisure Triple Cover

Creatures wanted this to be an essential for the serious traveller with three boards—a smart quiver for a quick trip. This is the lightest, strongest and most durable Creature design to date. It features 10mm of closed cell foam padding, Marine Grade Corrosion resistance along the PK nylon zipper, a drag plate for us lazy folk, reinforced shoulder straps with metal clips, and padded carry handle with neoprene so you have something smooth in your hand in case of a long check-in line.

ci

Channel Islands Triple Board Coffin

This is the sort of cover you can imagine Dane rocking as he makes his way to LAX. It’s simple, stealthy, would have three sharp CI weapons inside. CI got inventive when they created this bag, it wasn’t about being overzealous, but calculated: the pull tabs on the zippers are actually leash strings, which is pretty nifty as they often have a way of going missing, or of never getting purchased in the first place. The bag’s exterior constructed from waterproof hex ripstop, dons 10mm padding on deck and bottom, 20mm of cushioned padding on the rail, and internal board dividers made combination foam and bubble.
