S.I. Swimsuit Taps 3 Of Female Surfing’s Elite For 2020 Issue
Caroline, Courtney, and Malia in Turks and Caicos.
The throes of July coincide with Sports Illustrated’s annual swimsuit edition. While not generally notable to us, this year the publication made the astute decision to highlight three women who reside on surfing’s elite competitive tier. Caroline Marks, Malia Manuel, and Courtney Conologue, who respectively finished 2nd, 7th, and 9th on tour last year, were the focus of individual spreads including suits supplied by their sponsors as well as high fashion brands such as Gucci and Versace.
Italian couture is much different in construction and purpose than the suits these girls use to scalp waves the world over, a fact that Caroline highlighted in an interview with Red Bull Surfing about the shoot. While SI Swimsuit has included surfers in the past, most notably Anastasia Ashley and super mom Alana Blanchard, their decision to go straight to the top of the pecking order and pick 3 of the world’s top 10 surfer’s paints a beautiful picture of the direction women’s surfing is headed. Click through the gallery above, and congrats to DHD, Mayhem, and Tim Stamps, there’s no way their boards have ever looked this good.
