10 Things That Caught Our Eye From Mr. Porter’s ‘Gone Surfin’ Capsule

A surf inspired e-com activation we thoroughly enjoy.

Mainstream retailers have long failed at capturing surfers’ attention, due either to poor execution or out of touch, luxurious displays

The issue? They’re not listening—and Mr. Porter has had enough. The e-comm giant has made their way via an impeccably curated offering paired by white glove customer service. Not one to follow the trodden path, Mr. Porter has tapped some of the finer fringe brands for their ‘Gone Surfin’ collection

These pieces aren’t what you’d typically find on the shelves of your local shop, and we see that as a positive. Mr. Porter knows its strengths and stays comfortably in its lane, which is why they’d never sell you a block of wax or tell you how to do a frontside wrap. But when it comes to clothes, Mr. Porter’s proven that whatever look you’re going for, their picks yield success.

Comprised entirely of exclusive items and featuring some our favorite brands (Birdwell and Saturdays NYC to name a few), this is a juicy capsule that’s sure to fly off your browser and onto your doorstep.

Bright Birdwell Boardshorts

If Bruce Brown’s infamous sunset cover of “The Endless Summer” was epitomized in a pair of boardies, then gosh darnit, this would be them. We at Stab have a well-documented soft spot for Carrie Birdwell Mann’s classic 2-ply design, and these might just be the juiciest pair to come out of their Santa Ana headquarters (all made in the U.S of A!).

Saturdays Loopback Cotton Hoodie

White hoodies were made for summer bonfires. There’s something just a bit wrong about trying to integrate such a stain-susceptible piece of outerwear into your daily commute, be it urban or suburban (my driving with one hand, coffee in another habit will attest to that). This will keep you feeling warm and looking cool while wearing white in the appropriate historical context.

James Perse Tie-Dyed T-Shirt

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.22.37 PM

This isn’t your everyday quarantine dye job. The fine folks over at James Perse know their way around a T-shirt. Praised for their basics, it’s nice to see James Perse adopt a free-spirited approach with this two-tone dye job. Avoid the hassle of dunking your ratty old Hanes and sport a shirt that’s like sleeping on a crisp pair of sheets wear after wear.

Faherty Camp-Collar Voile Shirt

Pastels aren’t for everyone, but short-sleeve button-ups are, and there’s no better time to try a washed-out tone than when your hide is good and tanned. If you’ve yet to buy that perfect summer BBQ shirt and want to dip your toe into something a little different, this pistachio inspired floral from Faherty is a no brainer.

The Elder Statesman ‘Yosemite’ Cashmere Socks

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.26.12 PM

I’m gonna skip the hassle of reading what is sure to be a large amount of “How the fuck do you expect us to afford $100+ dollar socks?” comments and address you all in one swoop. Socks are valued by three factors, being: fabric, thickness, and look. The Elder Statesmen are cashmere specialists who make shit like this, bringing a sky blue aesthetic to a sock that’s thicker than Howard Taft circa 1909. We’re sure you’ve spent your paycheck on more frivolous expenditures, why not invest in the experience of walking on clouds?

Noon Goons Beanie

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.20.51 PM

The official anti-summer summer garm. Noon Goons has been eloquently toeing the line between surfwear and streetwear since their launch in 2016. If you’re the type that zigs when others zag or merely want to edge up your look, this piece is for you. We’re sure to see this on the Goggan’s noggin any day now.

Saturdays NYC ‘Soho’ Slides

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.21.40 PM

Another product of which we’re incredibly fond, the gents from Crosby Street have done it again. This exclusive summer color-way of their ‘Soho Slides’ will keep your toes cooler than the all-black versions, avoiding a brutal foot-scalding when you leave em in the sun for too long.

Reyn Spooner Print

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.15.46 PM

When one thinks of cut and sewn fashion the names Paris, Milan and New York justifiably come to mind before that of Catalina Island. With the hope of finding a suitable alternative for the gaudy Hawaiian shirts of the era, Catalina local Reynold McCullough founded Reyn Spooner in 1956. Nearly 70 years later, the abundantly beautiful reefs and intricate ecosystems that surround the island still shine through in their aesthetic.

Ahna Round-Frame Tortoiseshells

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.17.36 PM

Sunglasses are one of the most difficult items to buy online because the fit is everything. But for those who champion round lenses, we’ve found that these frames from Ahna perch nicely atop a majority of mugs—male and female. Plus, a little tortoiseshell with some dark lenses never hurt nobody!

The Elder Statesman Wacky Boomslang Shorts

Screen Shot 2020 07 06 at 8.49.57 PM

We’ve harped on The Elder Statesmen’s quality enough already. For this, just take exactly what we said above and apply that sensation to your nether regions. We promise you’ve never had shorts like this…
