It’s Time Surfers Get Sponsored By Cannabis Co’s

Opinions from an intern.

Brad Domke, the aquanaut best known for towing into freakishly large waves on a skimboard, has a new sponsor. It’s dank. No like actually, he’s sponsored by weed. Domke teamed with a company called Superbad Inc, which specializes in cannabis technology. Based on an interview posted on Domke’s Instagram, it seems like some pretty potent shit. Still not even sure what he was trying to say. “Superbad is about….how bad you are…at your passion.” You can try to decipher that for yourself, but long story short, he’s getting paid to get high.

Has me wondering, can professional surfers get sponsored by drugs? Ohhhh I’m sorry weird man-bun guy, I mean sponsored by medicine. Would be pretty cool to witness. Trade out some of the million “MUST BUY” CBD creams for a bit of the devil’s lettuce. Pro shapes would be exchanged for pro strains. CT surfers with Old Pal stickers on their nose, product photos of guys and gals chiefing away, a more concentrated kind of surf wax.

Doesn’t seem like something the WSL would allow. They’re not exactly the “fun uncle” of the surf world. For a free surfer though, I don’t see a problem. If the company is 100% legit and the athlete isn’t violating any other contracts, why not, right? Probably get paid in cash and the benefits would be captivating. Imagine your favorite surfer showcasing their monthly care package on social media. Instead of clothes, we would be taunted with prerolls, edibles, and cartridges. Maybe some oil if our beloved surfer liked getting higher than the statue of liberty’s nipples.

Does this make Domke a bad role model? Promoting weed and corrupting today’s youth? Not a chance. You’re responsible for teaching your kids not to make poor decisions. As a teenager, I made plenty of my own, and they had nothing to do with the Floridian superhero in the background of my cringy go pro footage (2012-ish).

Joel Tudor has always been open about his marijuana habit. You’re going to tell me that makes him a bad father? Come on, I’ve never met the kid, but a simple interview will show you that Tosh is a well rounded, humble, and mature young man.

Weed and surfing go together like Cheech and Chong. Like cocaine and waffles baby. Cool artsy shit, dope-smoking, sticking it to the man. It’s rooted deep in our precious surf culture. We don’t shout it from the rooftops, but simply nod our head in acknowledgment.
