How A North Shore Surf And Skate Rat Became The Face of Louis Vuitton
Hypebeast on Oahu’s Evan Mock “redefining what it means to be a skateboarder”
The Mock Family are true North Shore Royalty; Pops, Steve Mock has been hand-foiling Island Fin Designs’ range of fiberglass fins there since 1979; daughter, Alana Spencer, aka @coconutcamradery is one of the most talented lenswomen operating (and one we’re always eager to work with on projects like our most recent Fijian voyage); Alana and her hubby, Kyle Spencer, are responsible for much of the terrific work Slowtide has been doing the last few years (which Evan has featured in prominently).
But young Evan, the bright-eyed baby of the clan—well, the kid’s rise has been stratospheric. And as you can imagine, along with the massive ego boosts from guys like Tom Sachs, Frank Ocean, as well as designers like Dior, Saint Laurent, and most recently, Louis Vuitton, there have always been plenty of shit talkers hating on Evan’s flamboyant, no-fucks-given attitude.
But from our experience, Evan’s too busy stealing every girl within arm’s reach and lighting up any room he walks into with his frenetic positivity and exhaustingly contagious energy, to care fuck all for what a bunch of Mundies think about his pink hair and his funny looking outfits.
