Gallery: Yesterday, In New Jersey
Hurricane Gert: Good waves, gross name.
First off, apologies to anyone named Gert. Not so much for the sub of this post, but for every roll call you’ve ever experienced.
Yesterday, Hurricane Gert (Nordic for Warrior) brought trunkable tubes to the East Coast – which, obviously, is life’s greatest joy!
“For summer the waves were firing,” photog Mike Incitti tells Stab. “The wind got a little funky as the day progressed but when you’re getting tubed in boardshorts in Jersey you can’t really ask for more. Gert was another swell full of mysto exploration and experimentation. Happy to say, I was able to put down the lens and got a ton of waves during both days and had a spot Wednesday morning all to myself.”
“In New Jersey, spots in the summer can get really crowded,” continues Mike. “But when there are waves like this (way bigger than the average summer day) and the red flags go up on the lifeguard stands and the tourists can’t manage the big boy conditions. The locals gladly take over the summer.”
“There’s one protocol when a swell like this comes into town: Forget the girlfriend, remember the surfboard!”
