Watch: John Florence Surfs His Foil Board Better Than Half The QS
You can’t buy talent off the rack.
Some surfboards are more maneuverable/faster/better than others. That’s just a fact.
However, the performance disparity between boards does little to bridge the divide between those with talent and those without.
Take, for example, John Florence—arguably the most talented surfer of our modern era.
John exclusively rides Pyzel surfboards, which are considered some of the finest on earth (see: two SITD victories). Whether it’s a Shadow, Ghost, or some other dark-spirit design, John consistently maneuvers them at a level above the rest (see: two World Titles).
However, in his latest Youtube installment, John decides to ride something that isn’t even technically a surfboard (it’s actually a Pyzel x Dark Arts foil board), and after just a brief period of acquaintance, performs well enough to make the quarters of a QS 3,000. Full-rail carves, intricate tubes, and nearly-stomped full-rotations.
It’s pretty fucked up.
