An ‘Arty’ Logging Film Featuring Honolua Blomfield

The inaugural women’s Duct Tape Invitational winner in a carefully cut film.

Longboarding is different to shortboarding. That much is obvious. There are no airs, no claiming, and their criteria for pumping waves is often what the rest of us consider unsurfable.

Another difference is the editing and filming style which complements each. Hi-fi surfing toys (and sometimes succeeds) with slow-mo, and arty cuts, but often falls at the first hurdle that is our limited attention spans. Logging on the other hand dodges this barrier. As nothing obviously exciting happens, the slow-motion and cinematic frames allow you to focus on the stunning subtleties of logging – the ones often accentuated by a fine and stylish female such as Honolua Blomfield.

Honolua recently won the first ever women’s Vans Duct Tape Invitational at Huntington. She was also the 2017 World Title longboarding champ – although she rode the controversial HP longboard set-up on her way to that one.

Here, in the film titled HONO, we see Honolua return to the more traditional roots. Riding a single fin cut to an originally scored soundtrack, carefully directed by Ben Ono and Nash Howe.

Watch, if you like.
