Keanu Asing Will Not Be Silenced

Welcome back, Mr Asing.

Remember when Keanu Asing, Mr “heart over height,” said “Kanoa [Igarashi] couldn’t fight his way out of a wet paper bag?”

That was during a Tournotes Cloudbreak episode back in 2015 (oh Cloudbreak, how we’ll miss thee).

Keanu won the Quik Pro France that year, gallantly fought his way through roadblocks from the likes of John Florence and Gabriel Medina, the, uh, best in the world. The waves were soft, but that doesn’t take anything away from the man’s performance. It was his first CT win, but after a tough year in the jersey, unfortunately not enough to secure a slot on the 2018 roster.

“It’s always hard, if it was easy everyone would be doing it,” he said on the webcast after his decisive heat. “This sport is only made for tough people and you know, I fell… But it’s not about how you fall, it’s about how you get back up.”

Keanu, the little man with the big personality and undying dedication to the game, promptly jumped back on his QS horse and rode. He married the love of his life, Kailin Curran, who just so happens to be a self-described “professional face puncher,” see evidence below. And by the end of 2017 his talent on-rail had earned him enough heat wins to rejoin the travelling circus.

Stab welcomes Keanu back to the big league and thought this clip featuring moments from his successful Hawaiian season, worthy of a share.
