Pumpin’ to the beach
Dane Reynolds’ site, marinelayerproductions, is surfing’s best. Nothing’s wasted – it’s the best and the worst of the sessions (though perhaps what Dane and his camp consider the worst, the rest of us consider A-grade.) Dane Reynolds’ site, marinelayerproductions, is surfing’s best. Nothing’s wasted – it’s the best and the worst of the sessions (though perhaps what Dane and his camp consider the worst, the rest of us consider A-grade.) This clip, recently posted on his site, is exactly the kinda thing we’re talking about. The last shot’s cute too, ’cause Dane ain’t a prince whose last wave is best of the session – he’s still gotta pump to the beach like the rest of us.
Stab recently gave the man behind Marine Layer’s production, Jason ‘Mini’ Blanchard, a Stab award for being “Behind the scenes genius”. Here’s a snippet:
Stab: Tell me about yours and Dane’s website.
Mini: Dane always wants to do his own thing. It was Dane’s vision. What better way to get that across than in a website. Just more freedom. Freedom of expression.
How much of marinelayer is yours and how much is Dane’s? Do you translate his rough vision? Pheeeew… well, it’s called marinelayerproductions because Ventura is always foggy. Perpetual. As far as the layout, he didn’t want anything complicated and he wanted it blog style. Dane and I learned it all together and we hired Dustin Miller as our problem solver.
Y’can read the whole thing in issue 48, out in a week or so…
Below is a short compilation of a few of the finer moments from Dane’s half-hour online film, Seen Unseen. Thanks to different compressions being used, “the whole video has extreme pixilation, random jump cuts and random frames.” If y’can bear watching the glitch’s, there’s some truly special surfing to be seen.
