Man Punches Shark, Saves Own Life In Port Stephens Attack

Shark punching is quickly becoming Australia’s national sport.

You gotta hand it to Aussies – those penal colony spawn sure do have some gravitas

Steve Irwin, Kerby Brown, and that little punk who threw the original “Project X” party are hardly outliers in the land down unda. Australians have an uncommon type of confidence that, unlike with Americans, hardly comes across as cocky.

They’re just… cool.

And of course you remember the coolest thing ever done by an Aussie, when Mick Fanning punched a massive whitey in nose, both saving his life and creating the single-most viewed moment in the sport of surfing.

The OG.

Well, it appears Mick has inspired one of his countrymen, who thanks to the Mick Method™ survived a similar situation this morning.

From Perth Now:

A MAN has fended off a shark by punching it in the head when he was attacked at Port Stephens on the NSW mid-north coast.

The man in his early 50s was attacked at Samurai Beach about 7am on Saturday, the state’s ambulance service said.

“We believe the patient bumped into the shark while surfing at which point the shark spun around and latched onto his arm,” ambulance Inspector Brian Knowles told 2GB radio.

“He then managed to punch the shark in the head and get away and escape to shore.”

Witness Garry Sharp told The Newcastle Herald he saw Saturday’s attack unfold.

“I had just pulled up at Samurai to check the surf,” he said.

“I had noticed the lone swimmer in the water and the next thing the shark appeared.”

A NSW Ambulance spokesman told AAP the victim was “conscious and alert” when helped from the water.

He suffered an injury to his upper right arm and was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Stab wishes this Aussie lunatic the best in his recovery. Though from the story above we doubt he’ll be out of commission for more than a week or two.

That tough motherfucker.
