So, what to do when Kelly Slater scoops wave of the winter at Pipe and it appears on every surf site in the world. Run a shot from the same session that ain’t so wave-of-the-winterish! Hawaii’s North Shore has just been swept with a rush of blood, a pulse of waves, a collective camera flash and some memorable days. And the shining gem of that rush, as you’ve definitely seen, was Kelly’s steep roll-in-grab-rail-bottom-turn-to-spitting-beauty. Amazing, it sure was. But even the king stumbles and ain’t a man on God’s green earth that’s immune to the pain the Pipeline can deal. Deep breath, plunge, hope for best.
And, would you believe, this is a screengrab from a Phantom cam? Such is the quality of the machine! Mr Chris Bryan, an extremely talented lensman who captured this moment, is currently in Hawaii working on a demo reel, which you’ll see on this very website real soon. Check out more of his work here.
