3 Must-Dos Off The US Open’s Beaten Path On A Weeknight(s)

Avoid the hot sand and have a cool libation with us!

The US Open of Surfing during the day is a lot of things.

It’s teeny-boppers in teeny boardshorts and bikinis. It’s HUG, KISS, and SPANK ME. It’s drunken 909ers looking for a fight, or a free hand out, or some body paint.

It’s a wonderful setting for a riot.

It’s a skate comp. And, we’re pretty sure through the ever-so-thickening crowd south of the pier there’s a surf contest.

Most of all, the US Open is one big weird party. And, while it’s become vogue to be openly opposed to strolling into Surf City USA when the event is in town, outside of the comp and the underage “spankings”, there are some parties and premieres very worth attending.

So, we took it upon ourselves to sort out your next two nights and your Thurs/Fri workday hangover (assuming you work… if you don’t, well, cheers!) and unabashedly, these are all parties and premieres we’re involved in.

Shocking? Not at all!

First stop:

Quiksilver’s Generations film premiere at the Lido Theatre, Newport Beach. Wednesday, August 1st at 6 pm.

QS Generations Premiere Lido 11x174

Tonight in Newport Beach, Quiksilver is premiering their feature film of the year, Generations. The doors open at 6 pm. The film stars Mikey Wright, Stephanie Gilmore, Michael February, Zeke Lau, Kanoa Igarashi, Jeremy Flores, Leo Fioravanti and many more. Quik hasn’t put the trailer into their Vimeo account so we took the liberty of dropping it in ours (see below). The film’s so hype you might just go for a night surf in waist high 54th st slop.

Prior to Generations, we will be dropping a short documentary with last year’s US Open Champ, Sir Kanoa Igarashi titled The Tale of Four Surfboards: A US Open Retrospective. We had four iconic boards of the US Open’s past remade by Channel Islands, Kanoa rode them, and we tell the stories behind Tom Curren’s Red Beauty, Kelly Slater’s “Never Give Up” board which he lost to Shane Beschen in ’94, then the tale of the infamous interference call of ’96 during the Beschen/Slater rematch; as well as the board Andy Irons rode when he did the largest floater the US Open has seen beneath the HB pier.

And afterwards, we are raffling them all off! Come by, eat some popcorn, sneak in a few beers and enjoy this double feature.

Second Stop:

Globe’s Bungalow Huntington Beach Party. Wednesday, August 1st at 8 pm.

Following the premiere of Generations and The Tale of Four Surfboards, we, along with Globe Shoes are throwing a party at the Bungalow HB in Pacific City to celebrate Noa Deane’s signature shoe because any excuse to throw a party is good enough. The first 50 people to RVSP (do it here) get a free pair of Noa Deane’s signature shoes. But all footwear aside, the Bung overlooks the beach and pier and is a pleasant space to have a few too many cocktails and take an Uber home.

Come by, say hello, have a drink, have eight more and blow off your Thursday work responsibilities.

Third Stop:

The Electric Acid Surfboard Test Starring Dane Reynolds at Pacific City. Thursday, August 2nd.

03 EA

By now you’ve seen us pumping our new project, The Electric Acid Surfboard Test starring Dane Reynolds (who edited the film!). We are very proud of the final product and highly suggest you return to Pacific City on Thursday night to join us for the World Premiere. The film will not hit pixels until October, so we, along with Vans, are going to parade her around New York, Sydney and France in the coming months.

But but but… Thursday night is the first time EAST will be shown to the public and we’re fucking thrilled!

Come drink margies on us (dose ’em if you must) and join us after for the after party at the Bungalow.

So little time for so much indulgence! We feel like dancing.
