Matt Wilkinson, pictured here, needed a decent result at the Cold Water Classic, Santa Cruz. Toeing the line for next year’s qualification, Wilko managed to check into the quarters after winning his round three and four heats today, which puts him in a more stable position on the ratings. “This result is massive for me,” said Wilko. “It’s the first time I’ve passed that third round this year. I’m freaking out. I know I really need points, so that feels good.” Kid’s won here before (2010, when this event was a six-star), and has an untouchable backhand game when he’s on. So, what happens next?
