The Replacement list for the Quiky Pro

“For 2016, the replacement slots are distributed alternately between the CT and QS in order of the previous year’s ranking. The first two spots that open up at each event go to the replacement list, beyond that the commissioner’s office decides.” – WSL

New year, old injuries. As the WCT sets sail, on the men’s side of things, Owen Wright is out for at least the first half of the season due to the severe concussion he suffered prior to the Billabong Pipe Masters. Bede Durbidge is in the commentary booth for Snapper, still mending his fractured pelvis courtesy of Pipe. And, Alejo Muniz is out with a screwed knee. With three of the top 34 currently on the disabled list, fresh breath’s been gifted to three gents.

Adam Melling will be taking the first slot. After finishing 23rd in 2015, he was one step short of re-qualifying. Adam will slip into Owen’s spot from now until J-Bay and possibly beyond depending on Mr Wright’s progress. Mello’s spent six years on tour and is now giving the opportunity to qualify by means of the CT, again.

Next up is Lennox Head’s, Stu Kennedy. Last year, during the Pipe Masters, Stu was anxiously pulling for Kolohe Andino to make a few more rounds. If Mr Andino made it past his round two fallout, Stu would’ve had a good chance to make his way onto the CT. Unfortunately for Stu, this never materialised and he was left one spot behind CT rookie, Ryan Callinan. Bede’s recovery time is currently up in the air and this is the best opportunity Stu’s ever been given to make a name for himself in the bigs, we’ll see how he fairs.

To our delight, Sebastian Zietz has been given the commissioner’s pick to replace Brazilian, Alejo Muniz. Seabass, much like Dusty Payne is a cat that should to be on tour, based off pure talent and style. Unfortunately he’s had trouble making heats on the CT and has been the victim of bad luck. Remember that interference at Trestles? Seabass took it like a champ though and it’ll be refreshing to see that man take to Snapper with vengeance. Hopefully that Gold Coast dreamscape continues to reel.
