Volcom Premieres ‘Psychic Migrations’

All photos by Michael Lallande  September skies in Newport beach at dusk are quite a thing. Something sweet, digested visually, and tonight’s sunset couldn’t have been more fitting for Volcom’s new film, Psychic Migrations. A fit of sea-shell psychedelia mixed in with fabulous surfing. The movie itself is quite enjoyable. But much more than that was in the works. The premiere was surf Hollywood. Complete with a pink carpet and Chris Cote doing interviews in front of runway-esq back drop. A line waiting for general admission wrapped around the theatre’s parking lot into the street, filled with guys, gals and frothing groms eager to snag a seat. The showing was already so packed with VIPs, they had to make time to show it twice. Chipotle catered the event and Modelos were flowing from the taps. A mad rush ensued featuring thirsty patrons trying to keep their whistle wet before the lights shut out and the film rolled. Once the movie was on, it was all cheers and hollers. Ozzie Wright’s still Ozzie, his parts may have stole the show. Kelly Slater and Alex Gray went wave for wave. We need to see more clips of Balaram Stack. Yago Dora’s as silky smooth as ever and Carlos Munoz has the best hair in surfing. For a solid 40 minutes, Psychic Migrations kept a jam packed theatre entertained. If Volcom does anything right, it’s doing it big. Want to catch the premiere in your home town? Kill Devil Hills, NC September 19 Santa Cruz, CA September 19 Seminyak, Bali September 20 Kamogawa City, Chiba Japan, September 22 Durban, South Africa, September 23 San Luis Obispo, Ca September 24 Mazatlan, Mexico September 25 For more dates head right here.
